What is Omega 3?

Fish oils are the basis of many people’s supplement regimen, and for good reason. They provide omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids which are essential for general health and wellbeing. These ‘good’ fats are used for almost every bodily function and need to be consumed through the diet.

Essential for the heart and brain

Heart Health: EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal blood pressure, cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels*. Over time, they can help to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Brain Function: DHA is one of the most important building blocks of the brain. The nerve cells in the brain are lined with DHA, and so this essential fatty acid can influence brain function and regulate mood**.

Vision: DHA is also concentrated in the retina of healthy eyes, where it maintains normal vision**.

Q: Can I safely take Four Fish Oil/Omega 3 Fatty Acids 1100mg instead of taking them having 1000mg?

          Thank you for your help.
A: Our recommended dosage of our S400 Omega 3 capsules is one or two per day, therefore we would not recommend any more than this unless you have been advised to do so by your medical practitioner.

Q: I am 73 years old in good general health and have been taking Boots 1000mg cod liver oil capsules for some years now. My optician has recommended I take omega 3 to help with dry eyes. Is it safe to take them both?
A: Yes you can take them both together but we would not recommend that you take more than one capsule of each if you are taking them both. As we are not medically trained, we do advise that you check with your GP that this is safe for you to do.

Q: I am a vegan and so cannot take the omega oils. Is there an equivalent to omega oil that I can take that is suitable for a vegan?
A: Many vegans use Flaxseed Oil as an alternative to Omega 3 Fish Oils. Unfortunately, the capsule our Flaxseed Oil is contained in, is a gelatin capsule and therefore not suitable for vegans. We do not have any current alternative that would be suitable, however, I will ensure that your comments are passed on to be considered in the future.

          Q: Hi,
how many capsules have I to take daily to get the right amount of Omega 3?
I am male, 49yr, 75kg, daily physical activity.

          Thanks a lot!
A: The recommended dosage for our Omega 3 1000mg is one or two capsules a day. It is up to the customer how many they would like to take, and what suits them better. However, based on your age, weight and physical activity, we would recommend that you take two capsules, ideally one in the morning, and one in the evening, to see the most benefit. Omega fish oils can help with your joints, heart health, blood pressure and cholesterol, along with other uses, which you may find particularly helpful with your daily exercise.

Q: Hi can you tell me if the omega 3 bottle states that they are mercury and lead free.Thank you.
          Kind regards Caroline
A: It is now widely advised that the best way to get the health benefits of fish without the dangerous toxins is to supplement with mercury & lead-free fish oil, something that we pride ourselves on, here at Simply Supplements. Only fish oil which has been molecularly distilled is completely free from toxins. At Simply Supplements all our fish oil is refined using molecular distillation – the most advanced process for concentration and purification of EPA and DHA from starter fish oil material. Many competitors do use less advanced techniques which allow impurities into the fish. Therefore, you can rest assured that our fish oil offers all the omega 3 benefits including heart health, joint mobility and mental function, in the safest and purest form.

          Q: Hi,

I have read that excessive and continual wax in the ears may be caused by a lack of Omega 3. What dose of your capsules would you recommend someone to take?

          Thanks for any advice.
A: One of the most common causes of excessive ear wax is a deficiency in omega 3 fatty acids. We recommend taking our Omega 3 1000mg. You can take up to 2 capsules daily. These high strength omega 3 fish oil capsules also provide 10mg of vitamin E (80% RDA) to further preserve the freshness of the oil.
        • 22nd April 2014 - Edris
Q: Hi sir, have you Omega 3 gelatin free ( from any animal)
A: Unfortunately, none of our fish oils are gelatin free capsules. However, we have products within the same range as fish oils but in tablets such as our HeartAce Plus, Plant Sterols, or Red Yeast Rice. These are products are designed to support healthy heart, cholesterol levels, and normal muscle function, including the heart.

Will omega 3 fats make me gain weight?

No, omega 3 essential fatty acids do not contribute to weight gain. In fact, omega 3's play an important role in the body's metabolism of fat and so are used to generate energy, not for fat storage.

Q: Can I take cod liver oil and vitamin d

We recommend that you take a standard strength Vitamin D 400iu supplement in combination with Cod Liver Oil.  We would advise that you avoid super strength vitamin D supplements, to ensure that you do not exceed safe levels.

Q: Do these tablets contain any Omega-6? If so how much? Also, from which fish are these oils sourced?

Our Omega 3 1000mg capsules do not contain Omega 6. The oils are sourced from anchovies, sardines and mackerels.

Q: What is the difference between Omega 3 1000mg and Cod Liver Oil pls ?

Both these oils contain the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA. Although Cod Liver Oil provides fewer essential fatty acids per capsule than Omega 3, Cod Liver Oil also contains vitamins A and D. As a result, many people prefer to take Cod Liver Oil during the winter months, when they will not be getting quite so much exposure natural sunlight  and Vitamin D.

Q: Can you tell me if the Omega 3 or Cod Liver oil capsules contain ethyl ester or triglyceride fish oils? as I have a hyper sensitivity to the ethyl ester form and so need fish oil in its triglyceride state.

Our Omega 3 is ethyl ester.

Q: Is this product IFOS Certified and mercury free?

Our fish oil material is based on the CRN standard. This is the Council for Responsible Nutrition which sets even higher standards for quality and purity.

Q: Hello there i would like to know if any of your omega 3 1000mg are gelatin free? i have read one of your answers to one of the questions saying that your product was halal friendly but that does not seem the case because one of your answers says that the gelatin is bovine sourced from cattle? could you please clarify.

I can confirm that all of our fish oils contain bovine gelatin and are derived from cattle, but are 100%  halal friendly.

Q: Hi. Do I swallow these whole?

You can swallow the capsules whole with a glass of water. Some people who find swallowing capsules difficult would pierce them and mix the oil onto their food.

Q: Why your fish oil supplements don't have the production and expiry dates.I live abroad and would like to order a 2yrs supply of omega3.What is the life span of this supplement from the date of ordering.

Q: My girlfriend would like to take these or similar tablets through her pregnancy, but we know fish oil can sometimes contain levels of vitamin A that are dangerously high for a foetus. Could you please advise on the level in these capsules? Is the nutritional information on this product available anywhere?

We would always advise that pregnant women consult with their GP prior to taking any supplements.

Many women choose to take Omega 3 fish oils during pregnancy to support the healthy brain development of the foetus. These fish oil capsules are perfectly safe, however, we would advise that your girlfriend avoids Cod Liver Oil during her pregnancy, as Cod Liver Oil does contain vitamin A which can be harmful to unborn babies.

Q: Hi, could you please tell me what dose I should give to a nearly 11 year old? Thanks

We would suggest Omega 3 Fish Oils to aid with the treatment of Varicose Veins; therefore you should find this product beneficial. Obviously, as supplements are not the same as prescription medicine, different people will react differently to different products.
