What is kelp?
Sea kelp is a type of nourishing seaweed that contains high concentrations of vitamins and minerals, including iodine, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Kelp is thought to hold a variety of health boosting properties and is often taken as a dietary aid.
The importance of iodine for thyroid function
The thyroid gland is located in the neck and is responsible for the production of hormones, in particular thyroxine. This hormone controls the body’s metabolic rate; the rate at which the body burns energy to support vital bodily functions. Kelp supplements are popularly taken to support the production of thyroid hormones and many people find that the metabolic benefits of iodine can also promote healthy weight loss.
Unfortunately, modern diets can be deficient in iodine, which mean that the thyroid is unable to produce thyroxine. This hormone is often deficient in people with an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which causes many of the body’s systems to slow down and results in tiredness, weight gain and low mood.
Nutrients from the sea formula
Alongside iodine, kelp also provides beneficial levels of iron and magnesium to support a strong immune system, healthy cognitive function and improved energy levels. In addition, iron promotes healthy hair, skin and nails. Kelp is also a rich source of potassium, which has been shown to support normal blood pressure, neurological function and muscle function.
The levels of nutrients within sea kelp can vary depending on the conditions in which it is grown. At Simply Supplements we ensure that each of our high-quality standardised extracts provides guaranteed levels of minerals. This natural source of nutrients is highly bioavailable and readily absorbed by the body.

|Q:||Ive read that brown seaweed extract helps rid the body of mercury, does kelp do the same thing? Thanks|
|A:||Officially, kelp is considered a brown seaweed, despite its variance between browns, reddish-greens, and purplish-brown. Kelp is known primarily as good source of iodine to improve production of thyroid hormones. However, research has it that kelp also acts a chelating agent, to remove heavy metal toxins from the intestines.|

|A:||Iodine is naturally found in Kelp which is sourced from seaweed. Unfortunately, we do not measure natural contents or ingredients of our products as it is difficult to do so however research has it that Seaweed naturally contains 33% of Iodine. You may want to try other vitamins and supplements that may help grow and strengthen hair like vitamin C, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin A, and vitamin E.|

Nonetheless, whilst a majority of combinations are safe, we would advise that you consult your GP or Pharmacist with any specific instances, particularly in relation to a medical condition as the potency of herbs when mixing does differ.
